Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 March at the “Gianfranco Mariotti” sports hall the 2023 Italian ju-jitsu cup which, under the aegis of Fijlkam, the Italian federation of judo, wrestling, karate and martial arts, will see the best athletes converge in La Spezia National Teams of Japanese Wrestling. Approximately 400 enthusiasts will participate on the various “tatami” (competition mats) in what will be the only national competition scheduled for Northern Italy this year. The event, which is also a recognition for the ju-jitsu of La Spezia, was possible both thanks to the local experience in competitions acquired over the years (over time important trophies have been disputed in the province, held both in La Spezia and in Lerici in Vezzano Ligure, all under the direction of maestro Augusto Peghini, an indefatigable propagandist of this discipline) and for the effective collaboration of the municipal administration through the councilor for sport Marco Frascatore, for the sports facility and for the hotel accommodations (in addition to athletes will converge in La Spezia technicians and managers and numerous family members-accompanying persons). The event is operationally organized by the Ligurian Fjlkam of which the Savonese master Filippo Faranda, 5th dan in judo, is president.
Four specialties are present, two purely technical (duo system and duo show) and two mainly competitive (nor waza and fighting system). Nor waza (ground immobilization techniques) is the sporting – classic – form of Brazilian ju-jitsu, while the fighting system, which brings together percussion techniques (kicks and punches), throwing, ground immobilization, joint locks and strangulation, can be considered the modern form of unarmed samurai combat, the basis for numerous self-defense techniques.
The two days of competitions will be opened on Saturday morning by the president of the Fijlkam national ju-jitsu commission, Antonio Amorosi, and by the mayor of La Spezia, Pierluigi Peracchini, who will bring the greetings of the city to the participants.
