The Belgian Union separates from its CEO Peter Bossaert the day after a crisis meeting

The URBSFA Board of Directors has decided to terminate the contract of its CEO Peter Bossaert with immediate effect“, can we read this Thursday morning on the official website of the Belgian Union.

The Board of Directors of the Belgian Football Union met urgently on Wednesday evening to discuss the CEO’s contract Peter Bossaert, which would have been modified in February 2022 without the approval of the entire Board of Directors. Several Belgian media had revealed it in the evening.

It is also accused of Peter Bossaert to regularly go it alone. The renewal of Roberto Martinez’s contract before the 2022 World Cup is the best example of this.

The presence of Bart Verhaeghe – desired by Peter Bossaertwithin the Task Force set up to find a successor to the Portuguese, while the president of FC Bruges is involved in the operation “clean hands“, had also asked.

But this new contract, upgraded (we are talking about €500,000 per year and a bonus of €100,000) and signed without the agreement of the entire Board (by two members only, Robert Huygens et Michael Verschueren) a little over a year ago, seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

President of URBSFA Paul Van den Bulckwho was an independent director at the time, became aware of this contract a month ago and hired a law firm to carry out an audit procedure.
