The Avilesina League returns in its XXIII edition with more participants and the goal of continuing to train judokas

The first day will take place in Piedras Blancas starting at 6:00 p.m. for the mini-youngest and youngest plus, while from 7:00 p.m. the turn will be for the youngest and youngest

10 months after the curtain was lowered on El Quirinal, the countdown has begun for the starting signal to be given to a new edition of the Avilesina League, a spring classic. It will be number 23, which makes it one of the longest running tournaments in Asturias. On this occasion, the first day will take place again in Castrillón, specifically in Piedras Blancas distributed in two shifts.

The competition will begin for mini-benjamines and benjamines plus from 6:00 p.m., although they are quoted at 5:30 p.m. In the case of the older ones – youngest and youngest – they will do so at seven and the summons from 6:30 p.m. For the XXIII edition, the number of participants increases compared to 2022 and up to 110 judokas will face each other on the four tatamis arranged for the championship. Like last year, the number will increase in successive days as clubs invited to the tournament will be incorporated. In the first, the prominence will be for the athletes of Judo Club Avilés and its quarry. “We are very proud of the response, since it is not every day that a league can be 23 years old,” said organizer Carlos Fernández. However, far from being blinded by ‘success’, the coach does not lose sight of the objective with which the competition was born more than two decades ago: “We want to continue training kids, and above all, introduce young people to the world of judo and competition” and it is that for many it will be their first contact.

The league will once again have four days and, pending the definition of the second and third that will be played in April and May respectively, what is certain is that the outcome will be played again in Los Canapés or El Quirinal in the month of June. The regulation does not vary with five points for the first, three points for the second and one point for the third.
