Surprising TV comeback – Monica Lierhaus moderates again

Monica Lierhaus has suffered for a long time due to complications from a brain operation. In the end, it cost her her once dazzling television career. She herself drew a line in 2020. But RTL changed her mind.

DThe former top sports presenter Monica Lierhaus (52) will soon be back on German television. She was hired by RTL and is supposed to report on the Special Olympics, among other things. This was announced by program director Stephan Schmitter in an interview with the “FAZ”.

“We plan different projects in the sports sector with her. A first highlight will be her commitment to the Special Olympics during our next “Inclusion” theme week.” Schmitter praised Lierhaus as an “extraordinary woman and a very good journalist”.

In 2020, on the occasion of her 50th birthday, she had actually declared her career in front of the camera to be over. Now the former TV darling will return in front of the camera. Looking back: From 2004 to 2009 she moderated the “Sportschau” on ARD. She also reported on the Tour de France and two Summer Olympics and Winter Games in 2006.

In January 2009 the turning point in her life. She had to undergo brain surgery to remove an aneurysm. There were complications, for several months she was in a coma. Her speech center and movement skills were affected. After two years, she returned to the spotlight at the Golden Camera awards. Before the brain surgery, she moderated the “Sportschau” among other things.

In recent years, the presenter had worked for Sky, but then disappeared from the scene. “It’s nice to see that she’s keen to return to the camera for us,” said Schmitter.
