The City Council of San Martín del Rey Aurelio, through the Municipal Sports Board, will recognize more than a hundred athletes individually or by council teams. It will be at a gala that will be held on April 21, at 7:00 p.m., in the municipal theater of El Entrego, within the framework of the eighth edition of the “Encounter with sport” of San Martín del Rey Aurelio.
“Right now we already have about 120 athletes who will be recognized at the April gala, but the list is still open so those people who consider that they meet the merits can apply for recognition by sending an email to the sports board ”, explained the Councilor for Sports, Honorino Montes. The main requirements are to have achieved a podium in a regional, national or international federated competition in 2022 or to have promoted in the team category that year.
The gala will also include the granting of a special mention to the karate teacher José Ramón Álvarez Ruiz-Huidobro, awarded in 2022 with the 8th DAN of the Royal Spanish Karate Federation, “in recognition of an entire professional career dedicated to teaching of martial arts, also giving training courses throughout the Spanish geography and abroad, and his work as a technical advisor, as well as the publication of books”, indicated the local government.
Similarly, a posthumous award will be given to Fernando Fernández Fernández, 6th DAN national master of Judo, a native of El Entrego, “who made sport a way of life that earned him multiple distinctions and an excellent record. He achieved the most high in 2009 with the awarding of the highest national distinction to sport, the ‘Gold Medal for Sports Merit’, awarded by the Spanish Judo Federation, in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to the sport of judo as a teacher and competitor”.
Athletics, karate, judo, motor racing, cycling, Brazilian jiu jitsu, archery, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics, spearfishing, Olympic shooting, bowling, basketball, swimming, table tennis and soccer are the sports disciplines that will be recognized. The celebration of this meeting, which will be presented by the journalist Carmen Liedo, will have the collaboration of the Nonae Dance Studio dance academy and the Ares Rhythm Club with an exhibition by Emma Fernández, the 8-year-old youngest, was proclaimed in 2022 Champion of Spain in her category.
“With this eighth Encounter with Sport, we give visibility to the sport that is practiced in San Martín del Rey Aurelio and we publicly recognize the effort and brilliant trajectories of the athletes of the council and by extension of the clubs and coaches behind it. them day by day”, highlighted the Councilor for Sports, Honorino Montes.
