Sinner overwhelms Rublev in 71 minutes

With an impeccable performance (28 winners and only eight unforced errors) and in 71 minutes Jannik Sinner beat Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4 to become the first quarterfinalist of the Miami Masters 1,000. The 21-year-old Italian, who with this victory is practically guaranteed to return to the world Top-10, was much better than the 25-year-old Russian and 7th, and on Wednesday he will face the Dutch Botic Van de Zandschulp or the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori.

“I am very happy with my performance, great level, I served better and it was my best game in Miami this year. I have changed my game a bit, although I prefer to talk about tactics”said Sinner, who has yet to drop a set in the tournament. Nor had he done it until this Tuesday Rublev. Both had met four times, with two victories for each, although it had always been indoors.

Miami is good at Sinner, who has always reached, at least, the quarterfinals, like last year, and in 2021 he was a finalist. Three breaks, two in the first set and one in the second, were enough for him to overcome a Rublev who had no break option and said goodbye in the round of 16, as in Indian Wells.
