Sevilla makes the dismissal of Jorge Sampaoli official

Sevilla has confirmed what was an open secret: the dismissal of its former coach, Jorge Sampaoli. The Argentine coach did not finish convincing the squad and the defeat against Getafe was proof of this. The Nervión team is only two points above relegation and tied with 28 points with both Cádiz and Real Valladolid. Without a doubt, the worst situation for the club in recent years. In 165 days, Jorge achieved 13 wins, six draws and 12 losses in a total of 31 matches.

“Sevilla FC has terminated the contract with its coach, Jorge Sampaoli, after the defeat of the team in Getafe, which has once again placed the team on the edge of the relegation places. The fact that the team has not managed to get out of the lowest positions in the table since his incorporation as coach and the image offered in the last matches of the team have led the club to make this decision, in search of a reaction in the last twelve days that remain to finish the League. Sevilla FC thanks Sampaoli for the services he has provided and wishes him the best of luck in his future,” the club stated.

The entity is working in the last few hours to hire a new coach and the intention is for him to lead the training session scheduled for 6:00 p.m. this afternoon,” the statement said.

It is also another open secret that the coach who assumes this responsibility will be José Luis Mendilibar. Both parties met yesterday and all that remains is to make it official. Another of the names that sounded strong was that of José Bordalás, but it was finally discarded.

Sampaoli’s farewell letter

It’s my turn to say goodbye to a city and some colors that I carry in my heart. When they called me to return, I thought it was a good option to close a first stage that, somehow, had been left open. Sevilla is the first team in my career in which I try a second chance. And I can certify that, despite the fact that the circumstances were different, my love for this shield does not break and continues to be enormous. I leave with my head held high because of the attitude at all times, because we are in the quarterfinals of the Europa League and because we put a lot of effort into taking this story forward. Football doesn’t always return the insomnia we dedicate to it with joy. But I have no doubt that it was worth offering and putting my heart into this shield. I want to thank the players and every employee of the club for having accompanied us. I have no doubt that they will achieve the goal. I want my gratitude to reach the fans for the drive at the Sánchez-Pizjuán, where we became very strong this year. It’s beautiful to play there.

I wish Sevilla all the luck in the world and I leave a big hug for the endearing Sevilla fans.
