Schwab creates a cut at Players Championship, Straka is worried

Matthias Schwab made the cut at the prestigious The Players Championship golf tournament in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The Styrian managed a good 70s round in the TPC Sawgrass on Friday. With that he improved to a total score of 145 (one over par) or more than 50 ranks, enough to jump into the weekend.

Sepp Straka, on the other hand, has to worry, the 29-year-old played a round of 72 and is currently just above the cut with a total of 146 strokes (two over par).

Schwab recorded three birdies and one stroke loss on the second day. The 28-year-old needed five strokes less than on Thursday. “I’m happy with how my lap went. I was able to keep the gap to the top positions small. With two good laps at the weekend, a lot of positive things can still happen,” explained the man from Rohrmoos.

Straka, who finished a strong ninth at Ponte Vedra Beach last year, played a par round with four birdies and four bogeys. He scored three shots in the last four holes, but the final spurt may have come too late.

Rahm has to give up

The tournament is over for top star Jon Rahm. The Spanish world number one withdrew due to illness before the start of the second round. He could lose the lead in the ranking to Scottie Scheffler from the USA or Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland. As on the previous day, Rahm was supposed to tee off with the two in a flight together on Friday.
