The Spanish judiciary accuses FC Barcelona of “corruption”, “infidelity” and “falsified documents”.
The Spanish judiciary has accused FC Barcelona, former club officials and ex-referee Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira of “corruption”, “infidelity” and “falsified documents”.
The allegations made by the Barcelona prosecutor’s office are aimed in particular at Barca as a legal entity, as well as at former club presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell. (DATA: All information about LaLiga)
The background is millions of payments until 2018 to a company owned by Negreira, who was Vice President of the Referee Committee at the time.
The investigators have now come to the conclusion that the amounts served to favor Barça in the decision-making of the referees. This was announced by a judicial spokeswoman. Between 2001 and 2018, the club paid more than 7.3 million euros. Barca described such advisory services as “normal”.
According to Negreira, his company verbally advised the club on how players should behave towards certain referees. In an interview with the radio station Chain Being the 77-year-old said a few weeks ago that as CTA vice-president he had never given FC Barcelona preferential treatment in any decision.
