One of the most traditional American football teams in the Northeast, the Recife Mariners will hold a flag football class for boys and girls aged 8 to 15 years, this Saturday (2/25), between 8:30 am and 10:30 am, at FPS Sports, in the neighborhood Imbiribeira, in the South Zone of the capital of Pernambuco. Registration to participate in the activity is free.

O flag football is a modality derived from American football, but which does not have physical contact between athletes. In matches, athletes carry ribbons tied around their waists, and the main objective is to remove the flags (flag in English) of the opponent. This action simulates the tackle of the NFL and signifies the end of a turn. However, it is important to note that the physical impact and strength used by American football players to block attacks do not exist in flag football.
It is worth mentioning that the expectation is that flag football will be part of the program of the 2028 Olympic Games that will be held in Los Angeles, in the United States. The NFL has ratified support for the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) to achieve this goal.
Last December, the Brazilian men’s and women’s teams won the 1st South American Flag Football held in the city of Itapecerica da Serra, in the interior of São Paulo.
