Rahm marks his territory from day one and is already a leader in Orlando

Jon Rahm marked his territory yesterday with the lead on the first day of the Arnold Palmer Invitational by once again bringing out the talent, strength and consistency that have allowed him to win three tournaments in the United States this year -Hawaii, American Express and Genesis – and to recover the world scepter that he lost eleven months ago at the hands of Scottie Scheffler.

In what is the second participation of his career in this prestigious event on the PGA Tour in Orlando, the Biscayan started like a cyclone with three birdies on the initial three holes, with which he made it clear that his ambition is still intact and that he also wants to reign in this corner of Florida next to Disneyland, where dreams can come true. Later, the field hardened and it took him a little longer to tame it, but his result was spectacular. He signed a card of 65 shots, seven under par, at the Bay Hill clubhouse, which climbed him to the first place in the classification. They are followed by two impacts by Chris Kirk, Cameron Young and Kurt Kitayama.

There is no truce for Rahm in these intense weeks of the course. Due to the calendar and his own competitive DNA, he ‘forces’ him to give everything wherever he goes. The cameras no longer lose detail of the game from Biscay, who not only leads the planetary list but also remains at the top of the American circuit in this idyllic 2023. For his triumphs but also because, when he fails to win, and this is one of the factors that make him unique, he is able to hold his own in the noble zone and finish in the ‘top 10’. He did it at Farmers Insurance, where he finished seventh, and at the Phoenix Open, where he finished third. Many points for his locker.

In addition to the victory in the tournament, in Orlando the number one is at stake again. The differences between the first three -Rahm, Scheffler and McIlroy- are minimal and a good example of this is that in the month of February there were already several rollovers. The New Jersey professional finished his journey before Barrika’s and it is evident that he has traveled to Florida to go all out because he finished with a magnificent minus four. Rahm’s response, incontestable. Minus seven and lead. Hit on the table. It seems that the battle may be between the two of them because the third in contention, McIlroy, did not go well.

In the Biscayne’s only one bogey was due at flag number 8. But he brilliantly conquered holes 1, 2, 3, 12, 17 and 18 and was exalted at 16, where he used his magic to seal an eagle that was his final impulse. Rahm doesn’t want to stop.
