PSG-Rennes (0-2): “The team puts everything, its heart, its soul”, pleads Gianluigi Donnarumma

The story repeats itself. For the second time this season, Paris fell against Rennes, this Sunday March 19 at the Parc des Princes. A logical defeat for Gianluigi Donnarumma and his partners, who will have to put their heads back in place when they return from the international break. The Italian goalkeeper is the only Parisian to have stopped in the mixed zone. He has just played his fourth game in a row without managing to keep his clean sheet.

How do you explain this defeat?

GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA. It was a difficult match, we lacked a lot of players but we are not looking for excuses. In this type of match, we have to do better, we have to win especially for all those who support us, who are always behind us. Now, we are going to go to the selection. Afterwards, we will have to do everything to find our best level.

What did you say to each other in the locker room after the game?

We are all disappointed, we were frustrated. You have to think about the team, what you can do better and what you need to improve. Things didn’t go well this time, but after the break we will try to perform well in all matches.

We don’t feel any more revolt, it’s the 7th defeat in 2023, in 17 games…

That’s how it is, we have to accept it. We have to approach the games better. We have to do better in terms of character and intensity… We have quality, but we lack that. We have to improve on these points. It doesn’t make me happy that we have suffered so many defeats, but we have to look ahead and do everything to improve.

Are you worried about the end of the season?

We want to earn as many points as possible. We have to win the championship, we need it. It’s not an easy thing and it’s not done yet.

In the daily life of PSG in training, do you see this character and this intensity?

All training is high intensity, we work as much as possible to reproduce it in matches. In some game situations it can be complicated, we have to improve on that. The team puts everything, it puts its heart, its soul. We all give our best.

Paris had not lost at the Parc des Princes in the league for almost two years. This defeat comes shortly after elimination in the Champions League, does that mean that this team is still affected?

Of course it affected us a little. We wanted to do well, we wanted to win and continue our journey in the Champions League. But we have to get our heads straight because the championship is not over. Now, we are going to the selection and then we will have to come back stronger.
