Praise for Szymanski’s return: ”He came in excellent”

Sebastian Szymanski made his comeback at Feyenoord against FC Groningen. The attacking midfielder has been out of action in recent weeks due to an injury. Szymanski injured his knee in the away match against FC Twente and was therefore unable to play for four league matches.

“The way he came in gives me every reason to be very happy that he is back,” says trainer Arne Slot at the press conference afterwards. “Not least, and I don’t say anything annoying with that, when I say that Javairô didn’t feel overly happy in that position. Sebastian said he could play for twenty minutes, I have already stretched that a bit. Let’s hope he can make more minutes soon. He filled in excellently and was involved in a number of threatening situations.’

Slot also responded to the comments ‘luck of the champion’. “It is certainly the luck of a team that is performing above its capabilities and that is what we are doing. If you look at what happened last summer. That you are in competition with a club that buys one player and we buy fifteen for them. Then I think we will perform above what people expected. During the season we think we are a very good team and we don’t think it’s surprising that we are where we are now.”
