After the shooting in Berlin-Charlottenburg on Wednesday afternoon, the police arrested a suspect. A police spokeswoman told the Tagesspiegel on Thursday morning.
The 28-year-old also had injuries caused by “blunt force”. They may have been triggered by striking tools found at the site.
It is not yet clear whether the man fired the gun. A weapon was not found on him. Possible other suspects are still on the run. “The search is ongoing,” the spokeswoman said. The background to the argument is so far unclear.
Police with a large contingent in Dahlmannstrasse
On Wednesday at around 5:15 p.m. on Dahlmannstraße near Adenauerplatz, between Kurfürstendamm and the Charlottenburg S-Bahn station, there was an argument between several people.
Shots were fired, in which two men were injured in the legs. The 26- and 28-year-olds were taken to a hospital. There is no danger to life, the police said.
The confrontation triggered a large police operation on Wednesday. The crime scene on Dahlmannstraße was cordoned off over a large area.
Since there was initially the suspicion that one or more suspects could have fled to a nearby residential building, this was searched by a heavily armed special task force (SEK) – without success. In the evening, the SEK moved away again.
The police were still on site with a large contingent. It will continue to search for the suspects, it said. Witnesses should be questioned and evidence secured. The police have taken over the investigation.
Another major operation alongside Netanyahu’s visit
For the Berlin police, it was another major operation at a time when the first security precautions began about 2.5 kilometers away near Ku’damm and the Zoo train station before the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Berlin.
Netanyahu was due to arrive in Berlin on Wednesday evening for a working visit. As usual, the highest level of security applies to him in the capital. (dressage/dpa/JuG)
