No agreement yet with top candidate Alfred Schreuder, Club Brugge wants to have a successor for dismissed Parker by next week

Scott Parker is now officially outside Club Brugge. Alfred Schreuder, top candidate to replace him, seemed ready for a comeback, but an agreement has not yet been reached, so it is up to interim Rik De Mil this week.

Sad situation for Scott Parker (42), Wednesday morning at Lisbon airport. The Englishman wasa dead man walkingHe knew that himself, everyone knew that by now. About eleven hours after the punishment at Benfica, he isolated himself again with right-hand man Matt Wells, although Noa Lang came to have a chat and was greeted by chairman Bart Verhaeghe. He then went on the plane and then the bus to Basecamp, where the players had a warm-up training, but not much later, at 4.50 p.m., his resignation became official. The press release was very short and concise and concluded with the statement that he could only win twice in twelve games. Parker couldn’t argue with that, though. He said goodbye to his group and will soon return home.

Club’s intention was to appoint a replacement very quickly, more specifically Alfred Schreuder (50), who was at the top of the list. Last season’s Dutch champion maker had indicated that he wanted a comeback and so negotiations were held, but an agreement was not yet reached. At blue-black it sounded that the conditions were still too far apart and that there was still disagreement about the duration of the contract. Schreuder therefore prefers long-term guarantees.

In order not to lose any time, it has now been decided that Rik De Mil (41) will take care of Sunday’s match against Standard. De Mil, already busy with analyzes during the flight, is the only remaining assistant and is therefore interim coach for the rest of the week. Just like in February 2021, when he had to replace Philippe Clement – infected with corona. He is supported by Björn De Neve (44), head of football at Club NXT, and Wouter Biebauw (38), goalkeeper coach at NXT.

Pressing with Blessin

While De Mil, who will also consult with the leaders of the team, is decommissioning, the sporting department will continue to work hard on a successor for Parker for the rest of the season. The ideal scenario is that someone takes over on Monday and Schreuder is still a candidate. At the moment there are few good (and free) alternatives.

Someone like Alexander Blessin (49), ex-KV Oostende and previously in the picture, was discussed internally, but some people question whether his pressure football is feasible in such a short period of time. After all, there are only twelve games left to play and we have to perform immediately. One of the main reasons to go for Schreuder was not for nothing that many players already know his way of working / playing football and are also fond of it. Trying to remove a trainer who is under contract somewhere – Ronny Deila (47) from Standard, for example, enjoys prestige in Jan Breydel – is currently neither desirable nor opportune.
