NFL: DeAndre Hopkins obtains permission from the Cardinals to negotiate a trade

In order to facilitate a trade, the Arizona Coyotes granted wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins permission to talk with other NFL teams.

This is reported on Monday by journalist Albert Breer, from Sports Illustrated.

Breer notes that the Cards have so far been unable to find a trade partner for Hopkins, who is 30 years old. The asking price would currently be a second-round pick.

Hopkins will enter his 11th season in the NFL in 2023, and will earn a base salary of $19.45 million.

Breer suggests that Arizona could expand the market for the Clemson University product by agreeing to write off part of his salary.

A native of South Carolina, Hopkins was suspended for the first six games of the 2022 schedule after testing positive for a banned substance by the Goodell Circuit.

In nine games, he totaled 64 receptions for 717 passing yards and three touchdowns.

After seven seasons in the Houston Texans uniform to start his career, Hopkins has spent the last three in Arizona.

A five-time Pro Bowl participant, Hopkins was selected to the NFL First Team All-Star two years in a row, in 2019 and 2020.
