New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is reportedly aiming for a highly lucrative contract extension that would put him among the top five earners at his position in the NFL.

According to what the Daily News reported Thursday evening, the pivot and its new agents would like a long-term agreement of more than $45 million per year. However, talks between the Giants and the 25-year-old’s representatives have stalled, with club chief executive Joe Schoen having admitted he would like to see the two sides closer than they currently are.

The deadline for granting concession player tags in the league is Tuesday and the New York outfit, like its rivals, can only award one. However, running back Saquon Barkley could also become a free agent soon without a new pact.

The team has said, however, that it will use the tag — at a salary of $32.4 million for 2023 — on Jones if it doesn’t agree with him by the deadline. The highest-paid quarterback is Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, with an average annual salary of $50.2 million.

Last season, Jones led the Giants to playoff qualification, for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns through the air, in addition to registering seven majors on the ground.
