Local Taichi Kho takes charge in Hong Kong, Ian Poulter just in the cut

To you, to me. Miguel Tabuena and Taichi Kho reversed their position at the top of the World City Championship leaderboard in Hong Kong. At home, in his club, the Hong Konger made a perfect game, without bogey but with six birdies. Like the day before, the 1,273rd in the world played at 64 (-6). This is the best card of the day, as for New Zealander Michael Hendry (3rd, -8 total) and Thai Danthai Boonma (62nd, par). This consistency allows the 22-year-old to take the tournament lead after the second round, just ahead of former leader Miguel Tabuena.

“It’s a very good round, I putt very well today (Friday). I am very happy with my day. I feel like I did a really good job staying in my bubble and focusing on myself. I felt like it was just me and the ball on the course today. I will try to do the same tomorrow (Saturday)”returned the player from the Hong Kong Golf Club.

Two strokes difference between Taichi Kho and Miguel Tabuena

Well launched after his title at the DGC Open in New Delhi last week, the Filipino scored -3 on Friday. Despite six birdies – as for Taichi Kho therefore – the child from Manila is now 2nd at -10 total. The fault of his bogey at hole n°6 and his double bogey at hole n°11.

“I didn’t get off to a good start, I made another drive error at 11 (he started with the return). I fired and had to take an unplayable bullet. But I told myself that there were still a lot of holes to play, that there were two days left, that there was no reason to panic or worry. I’m pretty close to playing my best golf, I have a lot of confidence. But you also have to learn to control it and not be overconfident. So I have to stick to my routine, to my game plan. I know that if I do that, I will have a chance on the last nine holes on Sunday”analyzed the 28-year-old player.

How hard it was for Ian Poulter

In the order of merit of the Asian Tour, Miguel Tabuena is preceded only by Andy Ogletree (absent in Hong Kong) and Wade Ormsby. The Australian, double winner of the World City Championship in 2017 and 2020, does not keep pace with his opponent. The defending champion started his second round with a double bogey, he then conceded two bogeys offset by his four consecutive birdies between 10 and 13. In the par this Friday, he finds himself in 48th place at -1 total .

As for the other former winners of the tournament, the Australian Scott Hend is now 14th at -4 and his compatriot Sam Brazel 23rd at -3. The day was much more complicated for Ian Poulter (+2). Faced with his four bogeys, the Englishman only found the way to the birdie twice. The 2008 British Open runner-up concludes the second round in par in 62nd place, last on the correct side of the cut.
