Ligue 1: the Champions Trophy moves to Bangkok

We do not yet know the protagonists but we already know where and when the next Champions Trophy will take place. The 2023 edition of this competition which pits the French champion against the winner of the Coupe de France will take place in Thailand, in Bangkok, on Saturday August 5, the Professional Football League announced on Thursday. The match is scheduled at the Rajamangala National Stadium, which has a capacity of around 60,000 seats.

After the last two editions in Tel Aviv, Israel, the LFP has pursued its ambition to open up to Asia to organize this prestigious match. The event had already been organized in China three times (Beijing 2014, Shenzhen 2018 and 2019) in recent years.

For this 2023 edition, the LFP is turning to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, with the ambition of creating a highlight around French football in Southeast Asia, where the number of fans is estimated at 400 million. football, and fill the famous Rajamangala National Stadium. »

Paris SG, defending champion after their victory against Nantes (4-0) in Tel Aviv last August, is the team most often victorious of this trophy in history, with 11 coronations. The capital club currently has a seven-point lead in the league over its runner-up, Olympique de Marseille, but there are still ten days to go.

In the Coupe de France, four teams are in the running: Nantes and Lyon, opposed in the first semi-final scheduled for April 5, as well as Annecy and Toulouse, who will face each other in the second half the next day.
