Kaiserslautern is beaten by Magdeburg

Dhe 1. FC Magdeburg wins against 1. FC Kaiserslautern 2-0 (1-0) and thus achieves the first home win in a league game since October 2, 2022. At that time, FCM won against Jahn Regensburg 1-0. Moritz Kwarteng (41st minute) scored the lead in front of 24,528 spectators in Magdeburg. After the change, substitute Tatsuya Ito (65th) made it 2-0. After the second win in a row – which is also a novelty this season – the Magdeburg team is trending upwards in the table with 27 points and eleventh place for the time being. Kaiserslautern is currently in fifth place in the table, but can still be pushed down to sixth place by Fortuna Düsseldorf this weekend.

“It’s nice to keep a clean sheet from time to time. All in all, we’re a deserved winner,” said Baris Atik, emphasizing: “That’s the kind of football we want to play. With a lot of risk, but that’s Titz football. The goal is for us to pull this off. We took a giant step today and we’re delivering on that week after week.”

Guest coach Dirk Schuster had announced a “hot dance” after the eight goals in the first leg on the Betzenberg (4:4). After all, he knows Magdeburg and once played on the Elbe himself. “At the time, I had a coach in Joachim Streich, who encouraged me enormously and thus played a large part in my career,” Schuster told Sky TV.

Magdeburg invests more

But the third-strongest away team in the league started weakly, the Palatinate initially concentrated on defense. The FCM started with a lot of possession and created good chances. Lautern’s goalkeeper Andreas Luthe prevented Magdeburg from taking the lead against Mohammed El Hankouri (11′, 12′).

Suddenly, in the 17th minute, the ball wobbled in the Magdeburg goal after Terrence Boyd shot a rebounding hit off the post – but he was ruled offside. Magdeburg invested more playfully and was rewarded: After a through ball from Jason Ceka, Kwarteng (41st) scored his eighth goal of the season to take the lead. After Baris Atik passed the ball on the flank with a heel, Ito (65′) flicked the ball into the goal from a tight angle to make it 2-0.

St. Pauli wins in Paderborn

FC St. Pauli continued its winning streak and gave SC Paderborn a serious setback in the promotion race. The Hamburgers won their sixth game in a row on Friday evening with two goals from Lukas Daschner (15th/42nd) and thus won a 2-1 (2-0) win in fourth place. As a result, Ostwestfalen, who had not been defeated in five games in a row, only managed to score through an own goal by Karol Mets (51st) to reduce the gap to third place. The Hamburgers, who have not been defeated for eight games, consolidated seventh place with 35 points.

15,000 spectators in the sold-out arena in Paderborn saw a balanced game in which the hosts lacked the proven offensive momentum. Coach Lukas Kwasniok had to replace the top three scorers and captain Ron Schallenberg in Robert Leipertz, Marvin Pieringer and Felix Platte.

With a compact defense, the efficient guests held up well and made it 2-0 before the break thanks to Daschner’s two goals. With the help of the Mets, the hosts, who had been unlucky to hit the bar by Bashir Humphreys, only managed to get back the goal. Paderborn’s offensive player Sirlord Conteh saw the yellow-red card in the final phase
