Jonas Hofmann “disappointed” by Hansi Flick’s non-nomination

Jonas Hofmann reacted disappointedly to the non-nomination for the international matches of the German national team against Peru (March 25) and Belgium (March 28).

“Hansi Flick called me and explained it to me. He wants to give the established players a break, you have to accept and respect that. Of course I was disappointed at first because it was the biggest thing for me to play for Germany from the start,” he said Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder after the 2-2 win against Werder Bremen.

Hofmann, who made two appearances at the World Cup in Qatar, also showed understanding. “You have to accept what the national coach is planning, you should trust that. As long as I’m back in June, everything will be fine,” said the 30-year-old.

At least his coach believes in it. “It’s crucial for Jonas that he concentrates on his games here at Borussia,” said Daniel Farke on Friday: “You have to convince your club. Jonas started today and his performance was really good. If he continues like this does, he will also have a really good future in the national team.”
