Marumi Construction (president Fumiaki Mizutani) in Higashiyama-cho, Ichinoseki established a basketball team. In order to revitalize the region through competition, we hold classes where you can receive high-level instruction and competitions where teams from the prefecture gather. The people concerned hope that exchanges through sports, expansion of the related population, and popularization of the competition will occur.
Mr. Shinnosuke, 24, a company employee and the eldest son of President Mizutani, who played professionally in Tokyo, Okayama, etc. on a corporate team, launched the club in January, making use of his experience. Twenty-two players and managers who live in the prefecture belong, and 13 companies in the prefecture, including the company, support the activities. They practice three times a week in Ichinoseki City, and once or twice a month they play practice matches with teams from the Tohoku region.
Aiming to revitalize the region, on February 18, the prefectural tournament “SOMECITY 2022-2023”, one of the largest street basketball leagues in Japan, was held for the first time in the city. About 70 athletes from 13 teams from the prefecture put on a powerful match at the venue, which was lit up with bright lights and music reverberating, and excited about 200 spectators.
