The Reduction of the risk of accidents, and the topic of their treatment, discussed in other blog posts and in our webinars, plays a role of fundamental importance in the training and control of the players.

Although it is a much debated topic and which still today divides about the real possibility of controlling, through tests and preventive programs, the risk of injuries through the improvement of the athletes’ physical abilities, the “injury prevention” still remains an omnipresent element in the programs of weekly work.

This article is about the effectiveness of using isometric exercises to prevent injuries in basketball. The proposed technology optimizes the improvement of the general physical preparation of basketball players using isometric exercises. To define the key factors that contribute to a dramatic reduction in the injury rate in basketball, a dedicated survey of basketball coaches, athletes and experts was conducted.

They were advised to rank the key factors for reducing the injury rate according to their importance. Overall, 52 people took part in the survey. To achieve the objectives of the study, the following research methods were used: a questionnaire, an interview, a survey; a study of the dynamics of fitness and performance of basketball players during competitions; an assessment of the physical characteristics of basketball players on student teams; psychological testing of basketball players; educational experiments; statistical processing of the data obtained.

Basketball players who regularly performed isometric exercises, taking into account their individual characteristics, had better fitness indices and lower injury rates. The greatest difference (р < 0.01) was recorded between the injury rates of those who did not perform these exercises and the athletes who regularly performed isometric exercises. The research of this study on the use of isometric exercises in the general fitness system of basketball players to prevent injuries demonstrated the high efficiency of isometric exercises.
