“I had to stop for my mental health”

Lucas Pouille officially competed again in the circuito ATP at the beginning of this season, after more than six months of inactivity. However, few know, in detail, the reasons that kept him away from the tour and the tennis player himself was in charge of telling them in an interview during the last hours.

Currently among the top 500 players in the world, Pouille, who knew how to be in the Top 10 of the ATP ranking and is the winner of five titles, spoke exclusively with The team about the hard time he went through: “With the injuries I began to see everything in black. I locked myself away and didn’t tell anyone. For my mental health, it was necessary to stop“.

Then, he explained how he managed to recover and get ahead: “It was holidays, friends, family. Golf, surfing, enjoying my parents, my brothers, my daughter, my wife. Being interested in other things. We are like in a bubble. You don’t necessarily realize what life is. It was super interesting to get out of all that, not talk about tennis anymore, it did my head a lot of good“.

The Frenchman, who made the decision to resume professional activity, warned: “If I suffer a serious injury again, I don’t know if I will have the courage and strength to try again to return to the circuit“.
