Rajiv van La Parra is back on the Dutch football fields. The former attacker of SC Heerenveen signed a contract with Almere City yesterday and hopes to be able to enjoy the game again.

The 31-year-old Van La Parra ended up in Almere via technical manager Johan Hansma. “I remember him from our time together at Heerenveen,” the winger says ESPN. “I had been without a club for a year, he offered me the chance to feel like a footballer again.”

The fast winger also explains why he had disappeared a bit from the radar in recent years. “In recent years I have played for clubs where you would rather not be as a footballer. But I was more or less forced to go there just to play. Now I have the opportunity to show myself in the Netherlands again.”

With Almere City, the attacker can immediately grab a prize. With a win over Jong FC Utrecht, the third period title is achieved. “It’s going to be a party on Friday,” laughs Van La Parra. “You have to celebrate everything there is to celebrate, that works mentally in your favor for the rest of the season.” Van La Parra himself will probably not take action yet. “I am reasonably fit, I have done a number of tests in recent days and I have come out well. I would like to play on Friday, but that is probably too early.”
