Freiburg keeper Mark Flekken was not allowed to play at the World Cup in Qatar. This decision by national coach Louis van Gaal met with little understanding at the sports club.

After the World Cup, where Oranje narrowly failed in the quarter-finals against eventual world champions Argentina, Ronald Koeman has now taken over as national coach again. And he’s building again on Flekken, who was called up for the goal alongside Jasper Cillessen and Bart Verbruggen. For the international matches in the European Championship qualifiers in France (March 24, 8:45 p.m.) and against Gibraltar (March 27, 8:45 p.m.), there are three new goalkeepers compared to the final tournament.

In addition to Flekken, there are two other players from the Bundesliga in Bayern pros Daley Blind and Mathijs di Ligt. Leverkusen’s Jeremy Frimong, who is having a strong season, was not considered for the squad.
