Former star player Ngadeu goes to China to join Stancie, he transferred from Gent to Beijing

Ngade’s contract would expire in the summer and the 32-year-old defender decided to leave immediately after an offer from the seventh team in the Chinese top flight.

In the Belgian league, Gent is in fourth place without a real chance for the title, but it is still striving for a trophy in the Conference League. They will face West Ham in the quarter-finals.

“Of course we wanted to keep him at least until the end of the year, Michael was an important player for us. However, we could not compete with the financial offer from Beijing. The player himself expressed his wish to transfer immediately,” said Gent’s executive director Michel Louwagie.

The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner has 53 international caps to his name, but was absent from the recent World Cup in Qatar. He leaves Ghent after less than four years.

Before that, Ngadeu played for Slavia between 2016 and 2019, with whom he twice won the league and domestic cup.

When he left Slavia in July 2019, the club had just hired Romanian midfielder Nic Stancio. He went to China last February.
