Next weekend, Mikaela Shiffrin is waiting for Ingemar Stenmark’s all-time record. With her 86th World Cup victory, the 27-year-old would catch up with the Swedes. In the run-up to the races in Kvitfjell (NOR) she gave an extensive interview to the “Sportbild”.
Shiffrin is asked who she thinks is the greatest athlete of all time. To which she replies: “Roger Federer is at the top, for me he is the greatest.”
Why Federer? Shiffrin explains: “The sport stands for itself, but what’s more, I met him at sponsorship appointments – he’s so nice.”
He came to her after a stressful day of shooting and thanked her for the nice day. “I was impressed.”
Shiffrin recently met her idol in Lenzerheide for lunch. “It was a surreal experience, I was so nervous.”
Federer gave her valuable tips along the way. “He told me: One of the most important things is that you should enjoy the moment at the top. Take a longer breath, because the moments will pass. You won’t always be successful.”
