Football Leaks: This Wednesday the final allegations in Rui Pinto’s trial begin

The judgment of the Football Leaks case enters this Wednesday in the final arguments, with three days set aside at the Lisbon Central Criminal Court for interventions by the Public Ministry (MP), assistants and defenses of the defendants Rui Pinto and Aníbal Pinto.

About two years and four months after the start of the trial, the collective of judges chaired by the magistrate Margarida Alves must start by listening to the MP’s allegations in charge of the prosecutor Marta Viegas, who imputes the commission of 90 crimes to the creator of the electronic platform Football Leaks and a crime of attempted extortion to the lawyer.

right away, procedural assistants should speak in court, among which are the Doyen investment fund, Sporting, the Portuguese Football Federation or the PLMJ law firm, among other entities and personalities.

Lastly, the final allegations are completed with the interventions of the defenses of Rui Pinto and Aníbal Pinto, who will have to reaffirm their opposition to the MP’s accusations.

Rui Pinto, 34 years old, accounts for a total of 90 crimes: 68 of undue access, 14 of violation of correspondence, six of illegitimate access, targeting entities such as Sporting, Doyen, the law firm PLMJ, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and also for computer sabotage to Sporting’s SAD and for extortion, in the attempted form. This last crime concerns Doyen and was what also led to the pronunciation of lawyer Aníbal Pinto.

The creator of Football Leaks has been free since August 7, 2020, “due to his collaboration” with the Judiciary Police and his “critical sense”, but is, for security reasons, included in the witness protection program in an undisclosed location and under police protection.
