Fontajau will have LED screens on the goalposts next season

The Fontajau pavilion will have some from next season new LED screens which will also be able to perform video marker functions. The City Council is preparing the pre-tendering clauses for the contract for the supply and assembly of these devices, which will be placed in the two funds to replace the current markers that have been there for 30 years, when inaugurate the equipment.

The promotion of Basketball Girona to the ACB has accelerated this technological renewal in the pavilion to adapt it to the new needs. In fact this season the club chaired by Marc Gasol has had to ask for a moratorium to the employer, claiming that he is a recent promotion. Finally, the four-sided video scoreboard that is in the center, hanging from the ceiling, will remain the same, although it has also been delayed because it cannot fulfill the necessary requirements: that it records the number and surname of each player, in addition to the points achieved for each team, the fouls committed by each player and coach, and the period of play.

The Councilor for Sports, Adam Bertrand, explained that “this investment is part of the strategy of trying to adapt all the facilities to their needs and uses, in the same way that we recently put a new track in the Santa Eugènia pavilion”. According to him “in Fontajau this adaptation needs to be made because it is necessary for the uses made by professional basketball”. Bertran admits that the renovation “was already needed this year” but points out that “there is a moratorium established and now our commitment is to have it ready for next season”. The municipal investment will be notable because a maximum starting price of 170,000 euros is proposed.

These two screens-markers of technology LEDs will have dimensions of 12.5m2 each (5×2.50 meters), last generation. The new devices will be able to perform the video marker function, and will be placed in the two bottoms of the pavilion to replace the current markers, which are 30 years old. In addition, other technological aspects will also be renewed so that everything is an integrated system: three match time markers, which will be installed in the dressing rooms of the home team, visitor and referees; sets of four-sided 24-second possession markers to be installed on top of the baskets; sets of luminous yellow and red frames; electronic possession arrows, and a control console and the corresponding sports software, which allows you to turn the LED screen into an electronic marker. All backed by the corresponding FIBA certificate.

The four-sided video marker will remain the same and with the new equipment the installation will be adapted to the ACB

At the end of last year, Baxi Manresa released two LED screens with similar characteristics to those that will be in Girona, with an investment there of 55,000 euros by the City Council. In this way, the Nou Congost was adapted to the demands of the ACB in order to offer all the information of the game. In Fontajau, during the Akasvayu stage, the club made a strong investment to place a four-sided video scoreboard valued at 600,000 euros on the ceiling, in the middle of the court. This device, which is still used today in Girona and Uni Basketball matches, has also become obsolete for the technological needs demanded by the ACB.

The regular season ends at the end of May with a Girona-Baskonia in Fontajau and for that match the new video markers will not yet be available. The City Council intends to put this work out to tender in the coming weeks with a view to the assembly work being able to be done in the summer, when Uni and Girona have finished their leagues.
