Felix Auger-Aliassime wants to be more consistent in 2023

Years have passed and the figure of Happy Auger-Also It has been taking the place that we all thought within the circuit. A player to remain in the top 10 for many seasons, although without being the strongest mentally, without overwhelmingly dominating the other participants in that group. In addition to this determination, the Canadian admits that he works to be much more consistent, to achieve that famous regularity that he costs so much to obtain in the elite. In it Media Day ATP of the Miami Open held a few days ago, these were his words about his current state and his ambitions for this tournament.

Miami Open 2023

“The best thing about being back in this tournament is the energy that is breathed here, it is incredible, different from other weeks. It’s different, starting with the place where we are, the peace that is contagious in the environment, I always notice very positive vibrations every time I arrive here, either because of the party that we can find in every corner or the youth of the people that inhabits the city, the music of the festivals is also essential. I have very good tennis memories of the Miami Open, although I have not had a memorable crazy night yet, all the memories have to do with tennis.”

Eager to get a great result

“I already have other experiences from the past, but the most important thing is that the training sessions are going well so far. The intention was to spend a lot of time on the track and I am complying with that, I am still working on small details to improve, although we know how difficult it is to find time for this in the middle of the season. What I feel is that my level is getting better and better, that increases my confidence and, consequently, my chances of winning games also increase. I want to win a lot of games here, hopefully I have a great week with some of those crazy games in between, just like I did this past week. For example, in Indian Wells things have never gone very well for me, but this time I reached the quarterfinals, so I approach this tournament with a very similar mentality.

Working in all possible areas

“I haven’t changed anything, I’m not working on something specific in recent times, what I try is to continue taking care of every aspect of my game every time I’m on the track, the circuit is constantly in motion and you have to adapt to those demands, although at the end of the day the goal we all set ourselves is to be more consistent. In my case, I want to be consistent with my way of playing, I know I have the potential to play big games against big opponents, but to get to them I have to be much more consistent. Some of my recent results reflect this, but I still have a way to make it to the quarterfinals or semifinals of most tournaments like this. Who knows if I’ll be able to win any of these big tournaments soon, that’s the next step I’m looking to take.”

Ambition to continue growing

“It’s never easy to take that next step, I think I’ve made six quarterfinals and one semifinal in the last Masters 1000 events I’ve played, but I haven’t managed to win any. The ideal is to always reach the round of the last eight players, but we know how difficult it is due to the quality that the rest of the rivals also have. It has happened to me on several occasions losing a game against a player who was only a little better than me, such as Carlos (Alcaraz) in Indian Wells or Holger (Rune) in Paris, also against guys like Djokovic or Zverev. These guys are the best in the world and it’s hard to beat them so we’ll see what happens in the future because I’m going for it.”
