Fantastic Vitols saves 48 shots, “Zemgale”/LLU wins “KeuPa”

Jelgavnieki beat Keuru “KeuPa” 3:1 (1:0, 1:1, 1:0).

Richards Fomins put the home team in the lead in the 18th minute, but in the second period, Míro Linjala’s goal in the 29th minute was answered by Artūrs Karaša’s goal in the 36th minute – 2:1.

Gatis Gricinskis made it 3:1 in the 53rd minute.

In the goal of the home team, Eriks Vitols dealt with 48 opponents’ shots, while Topias Leinonen saved 23 shots at the other end of the field.

On Saturday, the teams will meet again in Jelgava.

With 45 points in 49 games, the Jelgava team ranks 12th in the competition of 14 teams, while “KeuPa” is seventh with 76 points.

The Latvian champion “Mestis” plays 52 games in four rounds in the main tournament of the league, 26 of which take place in the “Zemgale/LLU” ice rink in Jelgava.

Last season, Imatra’s “Kettera” became the champion team of Finland’s second strongest league, which beat “Kiekko-Espoo” 4-1 in the final series.

“Zemgale”/LLU of Jelgava won their first Latvian championship title in the 2021/2022 season, defeating the previous champion “Olimp”/”Venta 2002” 4-0 in the final series.
