For the ÖTV duo Alexander Erler/Lucas Miedler, the first round of the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami is the end of the line.
The two Austrians lost their first game against the two experienced Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in straight sets 4:6, 2:6 in their first joint 1000 tournament.
Despite the defeat, the two will improve slightly in the ATP ranking after Miami. Erler moves up two positions to 41st place, Miedler improves by three places to 42nd place.
Two-time Grand Slam winners Cabal/Farah are ranked 22nd and 24th respectively.
In the individual competition, Dominic Thiem had to say goodbye after his first match. The Lower Austrian lost to Italian Lorenzo Sonego.
