Djokovic targets the Olympics

Novak Djokovic points to the only great title that he has yet to sign. The Serbian, who this week celebrates the record 378 weeks as world number 1commented in his press conference that he is looking forward to the 2024 Olympics. He has shown his interest in “arriving healthy” to Paris and win the gold medal, a pending issue in his career. “It will be played on clay at Roland Garros, so I am familiar with those terrains and hopefully the best Olympic result for me will come there,” Djokovic declared.

The desire has always been there. Without desire, I feel that there is no movement in any sense of that word. So I always try to be very clear with myself what are the objectives that I want in tennis”, assured the Serb at the press conference. Djokovic is one of the best tennis players in history. He has won 93 individual titles during his career, and he is, together with Rafa Nadal, the tennis player who more Grand Slams has been achieved in history, with a total of 22 trophies. He also signed 38 Masters 1,000 tournaments, 15 ATP 500, 12 ATP 250 and 6 ATP World Tour Finals. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics the bronze medalbut the Serbian has gold in mind.

“This kind of mindset really helped me to always be so dedicated to the game. I always remind myself that it is willpower and the desire to succeed the essential ingredient of the entire formula”, explained Djokovic. This mentality has helped him add victories season after season and not lose his hunger for new challenges. Therefore, he points to only great title missingand is confident that he can take that medal home.

In addition to his future in Paris 2024, the Serb has spoken about the evolution of tennis in recent years. “This has happened in all sports, it is logical. Everything evolves and everything improves. You have the technology that is really different. Tennis not so many years ago was played with a wooden racket. Now you’ve had an introduction of incredibly durable, yet very lightweight materials that allow you to swing faster and have more control. That is technology.”, assured Djokovic. Thanks to these advances, they know “do physical preparation and recovery”and the database offers a lot of information for athletes to improve.
