Erik ten Hag and Manchester United decided on Monday not to appeal against the much-discussed red card that Casemiro received last weekend. It means that the midfielder is suspended for four matches.
Casemiro was sent off on Sunday in the goalless home game against Southampton on the advice of the VAR after a wild tackle on Carlos Alcaraz. He searched the catacombs emotionally.
Ten Hag said after the match that he absolutely disagreed with referee Anthony Taylor’s choice to convert Casemiro’s initial yellow card into red.
“Casemiro played more than five hundred games and never received a direct red card. Now he already has two in the Premier League,” said the coach, among other things. “The referee influences this game. It’s about the inconsistency; the players no longer know what is and what is not allowed.”
Due to his suspension, Casemiro cannot compete against Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday. He also misses the league games against Newcastle United, Brentford and Everton. In between, he is available against Real Betis in the Europa League.
The 31-year-old Casemiro played for Real Madrid for years and has been wearing the shirt of Manchester United since this season. Ten Hag’s club is third in the Premier League, at an appropriate distance from Arsenal and Manchester City.
