The Arizona Coyotes traded defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2026 third-round pick on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old American had a good campaign under André Tourigny with 31 points, including 10 goals, in 52 games.

A power play specialist, the 29-year-old fullback is in the final campaign of a pact worth $4.5 million a year.

Gostisbehere was in his second season with the Coyotes. In July 2021, the Philadelphia Flyers sold a second-round pick to the Arizona team to get rid of the Floridian contract.

He had his career-best campaign in 2017-18, when he had 65 points in 78 games.

In career, the Flyers’ third-round pick has 301 points in 515 games. Among the defensemen drafted in 2012, only Morgan Rielly has done better since the start of his career, with 402 points.

This transaction could also mean that the “Canes” are no longer part of the derby for obtaining the services of Jakob Chychrun.
