coach Corinne Deacon dismissed from her duties by the FFF

The executive committee (Comex) of the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Thursday that it was dismissing Corinne Deacon, coach of Les Bleues since 2017. She faced a revolt from several of her players, including the emblematic Wendie Renard and Marie-Antoinette Katoto, since February 24.

Six months before the 2023 World Cup, the French women’s team will have a new person at the helm: coach Corinne Deacon, in office since 2017, was dismissed from her post on Thursday March 9, following a committee executive (Comex) of the French Football Federation (FFF).

“If the FFF recognizes the involvement and the seriousness of Corinne Deacon and her staff in the exercise of their mission, it appears that the malfunctions observed seem, in this context, irreversible. In view of these elements, it was decided to put an end to the mission of Corinne Deacon at the head of the French women’s team”, indicated the FFF in a press release.

The crisis, long underground, burst into the open on February 24 with the announcement by Wendie Renard (142 selections) of her withdrawal from the France team, explaining that she could “no longer endorse the current system” too far, according to her, from the top level.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani, stars of Les Bleues and Paris SG, engaged and tackled the “lack of professionalism” of the tricolor coaching, without naming the coach directly. The Lyonnaises Griedge Mbock (injured) and Perle Morroni (not selected) also joined the sling.

On this subject, the Comex indicated “that the way used by the players to express their criticisms was no longer acceptable in the future”.

Several job candidates

A working group will be set up to audition candidates for the position.

The name of Gérard Prêcheur, current coach of the women’s PSG, comes up insistently. In recent hours, the former INF Clairefontaine trainer and ex-coach of OL Women (2014-2017) however assured that he had not been contacted by the FFF.

Other profiles stand out, such as those of Sonia Bompastor (Lyon), Sandrine Soubeyrand (Paris FC) and Éric Blahic (ex-deacon of Deacon). But the Federation could temporize on this subject and not take an immediate decision
