‘Club Brugge shakes La Masia to its foundations’

Club Brugge kept quiet on the transfer market in January and only brought in a new reserve goalkeeper in the form of Joe Bursik. Behind the scenes at Blauw-Zwart they are already working hard on the core of next season and for that they will also go shopping at FC Barcelona again. A year after Ferran Jutgla, another promising attacker has arrived at Club.

In recent months it has been reported from Spain that Victor Barbera, the top scorer of Barça Atlètic, is on his way to Club. Mundo Deportivo also confirmed last weekend that the deal is done. The 18-year-old striker settles in Bruges on a free transfer, because his contract with Barça expires at the end of June. The Catalans tried to get him to sign, but were caught at speed by Club.

Barbera managed to convince that with better financial conditions and a faster view of playing minutes in the A-team. In Camp Nou, however, the deal comes in like a sledgehammer. At Relevo they know that the Barça board is not happy with the fact that Barbera could just walk out the door, something that also seems to happen with Ilias Akhomach (18), another great talent of La Masia.

DRASTIC INTERVENTION
Club’s transfer coup could have major consequences in Catalonia. After all, the departure of Barbera and Akhomach would ensure that José Ramon Alexanco would be on the seesaw as head of the youth academy. CEO Mateu Alemany and sporting director Jordi Cruijff would have already taken over responsibility for the most important contract extensions. However, they arrive too late for Barbera, allowing Club to do an excellent business.
