After two years as coach of the first team, Sandro Wagner is leaving SpVgg Unterhaching in the summer. The 35-year-old would like to “change perspective and take a step in a different direction”.
Sandro Wagner is leaving SpVgg Unterhaching in the summer. “I’ve always emphasized that as a coach I’m a learner and by no means perfect. That’s exactly why I want to change my perspective in the summer and take a step in a different direction,” Wagner explains his decision on Thursday. How exactly this step looks like, he leaves open.
Farewell after more than three years
Sandro Wagner started his club coaching career in spring 2021 at SpVgg. After a few months he managed to get promoted to the A-Junior Bundesliga with the U19s. For the 2021/2022 season he then took over the first team, with which he is currently in first place in the Regionalliga Bayern.
“I owe SpVgg Unterhaching a great debt of gratitude. In spring 2021, Manfred Schwabl had the courage to hire me as a coach and then even entrust me with the first team, although I had hardly any experience up to that point. I will thank him and him for this trust Always be grateful to the club,” Wagner is quoted as saying on the club’s website.
Regional league championship goodbye?
SpVgg Unterhaching President Manfred Schwabl regrets Wagner’s imminent farewell: “Of course it’s a great pity that Sandro is leaving us in the summer. I wish Sandro all the best and I’m totally convinced that he will have a great coaching career in the future. But first of all we want to do everything we can to crown our joint successful path with the regional league championship.”
That is also Wagner’s goal: “Anyone who knows me knows that I will invest everything for maximum success with SpVgg until I leave. The club and the region are very important to me, and that will never change! “
