Morocco immediately spoiled their home crowd after a fantastic World Cup. The team took their first-ever victory over Brazil in a friendly match at the Ibn Batouta Stadium, becoming only the second African country to beat the Seleção.

With Genk midfielder Bilal El Khannouss in the base, Morocco started the game cautiously. In the early stages, the chances were few, although the best opportunities were for the visitors. Vinicius Junior took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Bono, but the VAR saved the day and disallowed the goal.

The Lions of the Atlas were shaken up and after half an hour Sofiane Boufal turned the stadium in Tangier upside down, on a pass from El Khannouss: 1-0. In the second half, Brazil quickly leveled after another mistake by goalkeeper Bono, who misjudged Casemiro’s shot.

After 63 minutes, El Khannouss was allowed to rest. The match seemed to be heading for a draw, but substitute Abdelhamid Sabiri secured the victory ten minutes before the end. He slammed hard against the underside of the bar. Morocco won for the first time in the history of the five-time world champion.
