Biathlon World Cup 2022/23: Schedule, TV Broadcast and Results – Sport

The biathlon season has culminated with the World Championships in Oberhof. And one in particular showed great performances: Johannes Thingnes Bö. The outstanding Norwegian dominates almost every World Cup race and he also won a total of seven medals at the World Championships, i.e. in every race in which he started.

In general, the Norwegians are superior and occupy mid-February with squalls, Sturla Holm Laegreid and Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen the first three places in the overall World Cup. The season started promisingly for the German men with a few podium finishes, but the biathletes were disappointed at the high point of the season and ended up empty-handed.

Balanced season for women

The women’s season is more balanced. The World Cup reflected that. Julia Simon (France) wore the yellow jersey during the World Cup as the overall World Cup leader and won three medals – as did the German Denise Herrmann-Wick. Only Hanna Öberg (Sweden) took more medals than either of them once. After the World Championships there are still three World Cup weekends to come and then the battle for the Big Crystal Globe will be decided.

Biathlon-Weltcup in Kontiolahti (Finland)

First World Cup winner of the 2022/23 season Martin Ponsiluma, who surprisingly prevailed in the singles. Biathlon World Cup in Hochfilzen (Austria)

In the Austrian Hochfilzen was happy Denise Herrmann-Wick about their first win of the season. For men, the men around the biathlon machine dominated Johannes Thingnes Bö. He picked up three victories – one of them with the relay. The women were allowed to spend the weekend Julia Simon happy about two successes – first in the pursuit, then in the relay.

The last weekend before the Christmas break was again all about the Norwegians. Johannes Thingnes Bö gave the competition no chance in the sprint, but his compatriots Laegreid and Dale then won the pursuit and mass start. Only Benedict Doll provided a ray of hope with a podium finish and a top ten finish. Biathlon-Weltcup in Pokljuka (Slovenia)

This year it was a big show for Johannes Thingnes Bö and Elvira Öberg, who won both races. Norway (single mixed) and France (team mixed) won the relay competitions. Benedict Doll4th in the sprint and thus best non-Norwegian, and Denise Herrmann-Wick, 3rd in the sprint and 7th in the pursuit were the only bright spots for the German team. The 13th place in the single mixed relay behind Japan and Moldova was particularly bitter.

Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding (Germany)

Like every year, went to Bavaria at the beginning of the year. Dominated once more in Ruhpolding Johannes Thingnes Bö, who despite shooting errors on the cross-country ski run is so fast that he is unbeatable – even with the relay. The Germans celebrated a second place in the relay race, otherwise only two top ten places (Doll and Strelow) were achieved. Lisa Vittozzi just missed a double win. Germany secured second place in the relay behind Norway, which was a ray of hope Vanessa Voigt 5th in the mass start.

Biathlon World Cup in Anterselva (Italy)

The last regular World Cup stop before the World Championships in Oberhof was near Antholz. The Norwegians once again dominated the men’s competition. Johannes Thingnes Bö extended his lead in the overall standings, Roman Rees still managed 4th place in sprint and pursuit. Above all, we were allowed to celebrate Denise Herrmann-Wickwho after finishing 5th in the sprint, ran all the way to the front in the pursuit – her second World Cup win this season.

Biathlon World Cup in Östersund (Sweden)

Östersund in Sweden is the penultimate stop in the Biathlon World Cup in the 2022/23 season. Instead of the start in November and December 2021, only six races will take place. Marketa Davidova and Sturla Holm Laegreid won the individual event at the last edition, and Norway (men) and France (women) took first place in the relay.

Biathlon World Cup in Oslo (Norway)

Like almost every year, Oslo hosts the World Cup final. At Holmenkollen last season, Tiril Eckhoff and Sturla Holm Laegreid celebrated in the sprint, Tiril Eckhoff and Erik Lesser in the pursuit, and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet and Sivert Bakken in the mass start.
