Between the Hopman Cup and Nice, it’s official

A prestigious international tennis competition, the Hopman Cup is reborn in Nice. Beautiful people have already been announced for a big show on the Côte d’Azur.

Nice and the Hopman Cup have sealed their union. During a press conference at the Hôtel de Ville, it became official for this relationship, which has just begun, and which should last for the next five years. A mixed doubles and national team competition, the Hopman Cup had not been held since 2019, due to the pandemic. From 2023, the city of Nice and the local club Nice LTC will take over from Perth to host the tournament. “We are delighted with the return of this competition to the calendar, and Nice has the ideal profile to make the event shine”rejoices David Haggerty, president of the International Tennis Federation.

Gasquet and Cornet against Alcaraz and company

This first edition in France will be held from July 19 to 23. To defend the colors of France, we find two former winners of the event, with Richard Gasquet and Alizée Cornet. The first, winner of the Nice tournament in 2010, returns to a clay court that he loves. For the second, it’s simply a prestige competition at home. “When I found out that the Hopman Cup was coming to Nice, I immediately hoped that they would call me to play it! Playing in my city, in front of my family, with this audience… it’s exceptional for me”, reacted the tennis player from Nice. Opposite, we already know that the Swiss Belinda Bencic or the phenomenon Carlos Alcaraz will be there…

Nice, ville sportive

With the Hopman Cup, Nice is once again sure to host a major international sporting event. Rugby World Cup matches next fall, the Ironman World Championships, the arrival of the Tour de France in 2024… the city of Baie des Anges has a string of files. A clear will of the mayor, Christian Estrosi: “the more we fill our calendar with this kind of major sporting events, the more we bring added value to our territory from a sporting, cultural and hotel reception point of view… Nice is giving itself the capacity to host all these events” .
