BASKETBALL 3X3 Open Start: Open heart surgery

Four years after the arrival on the island of Alain Contensoux, DTN of the FFBB, the 3×3 transplant is still struggling to take. For the time being, only one Open Start – the first level of tournaments set up by the Superleague to structure the discipline – was born on the island in December 2021 at the initiative of Philippe Hachemaoui and Saint-Pierre BB .
Since then, nothing. The momentum that this first event, sponsored by Mickaël Var, was supposed to stimulate, will only find an echo today on the occasion of the second tournament organized by this same Philippe Hachemaoui. “It’s something close to my heartunderlines the president of the BC3B. There is a commission that has been created but it is not easy, we find ourselves confronted with infrastructures very anchored in the 5×5. The establishment of 3×3 on the island is however necessary because we know full well that it will be accompanied by an increase in the number of licensees and practitioners. Through the 3×3, resulting from the game practiced in the playgrounds, the Regional Basketball League hopes to bring to the clubs all the players who pass through the meshes of the federal sector.

Dunk and shoot contest

Also involved in tennis, Philippe Hachemaoui believes that an alternative practice like 3×3 could experience the same development as padel in recent years. “I spoke about it with Jérôme Prigent who is the FFBB’s 3×3 project manager and it is an example that should be followed.continues Philippe Hachemaoui. There is room for the 3×3 to settle in Reunion and that we manage to reconcile it with the 5×5 championship. We just have to be able to give the first impulse.” And why not this weekend? In any case, the Open Start of the BC3B has a vocation for this.
About twenty teams of four players (15-20 ans) are expected at the Denis-Pothin complex for the qualifications at 9 a.m. A luxury trainer for the club’s young people throughout the week, Samuel Nadeau will be the sponsor of the event, which will also offer a shoot and dunk competition.
After a lunch break, the final phases will begin around 1:30 p.m. and will finally reveal the names of the players who will succeed Nelson Richardson, Mickaël Var and Anli Souffou, the historic winners of the first Reunion Open Start.
