Anderlecht goalkeeper Justien Odeurs hangs up football boots: “I made this decision with pain in my heart”

Justien Odeurs (25) will stop playing football at the end of this season. Anderlecht’s first goalkeeper will only turn 26 at the end of May, but finds the combination with a full-time job in education too hard. This is reported by her management Quadrans.

“Because of the training sessions I often don’t get to bed until around midnight, but the next day I just have to go to work. I feel that I am sick more often and get injured more easily. I am no longer the best version of myself on the field and that is why it is with a heavy heart that I have made this decision,” says Odeurs. “I had a proposal from Anderlecht for next season and I thought about this decision for a long time, but when I think about my future, it is the right choice.”

So at Anderlecht they have to look for a new first keeper, but Odeurs – whose contract expires – will still finish this season. Her latest goal is a sixth title in a row with RSCA Women. In the play-offs, which start on March 17, the Purple & White must pass leader OHL, which currently has one point more.

At the beginning of 2022, Odeurs already retired from the Red Flames as an international. She no longer met the stricter physical requirements after being our national number 1 for years and gave up herself. (vva)
