Adif invests more than 82 million in renewing the communications infrastructure |

Adif will invest more than 82 million euros in renovation works of its communications infrastructure in the East, Northeast, Northwest and South areas. With this, it will provide more reliability and robustness to the fiber optic network of conventional lines and will deploy a new trunk fiber cable for the implementation of the multi-service IP network, adapted to the needs of the service.

These actions are part of the Telecommunications Improvement Plan of Adif and seek to meet the demand for railway operating services.

The actions that will be undertaken include the adaptation of fiber for the transport of all services and the renewal of cabling or the deployment of fiber in those sections where necessary.

In the Eastern area, these works will be carried out by the company Emurtel, with an award amount of 17.2 million euros and an execution period of 23 months.

In the Northeast case, the contract for the execution of the works has been awarded to Sistemas y Montajes Industriales for 27.2 million euros and an execution period of 22 months.

The contract for the renewal of the communications infrastructure in the Northwest area has been awarded to the joint venture made up of Telephone Lines and Centrals and Cobra Installations and Services, for an amount of 16.9 million euros and a term of 23 months.

Finally, in the South area, the works will be carried out by the joint venture made up of Comsa Instalaciones y Sistemas Industriales and Emurtel for an amount of 20.8 million euros and an execution period of 23 months.

Adif and Adif AV have a fiber optic network of more than 24,000 km, with a high capillarity throughout the Spanish geography and interconnected with France and Portugal. This fiber optic network supports the services of railway operation and, in addition, enables the development and implementation of the latest technologies related to railway management, such as the ERTMS signaling system or the GMS-mobile communications model. R.

Once the communication needs inherent to rail traffic through this network have been met, Adif and Adif AV offer capacity and services to telecommunications operators; currently, much of it, through the fiber optic assignment contract established between Adif AV and Reintel. Excess network capacity is also used for other uses, such as collaborations for global scientific and technological development.

This action contributes to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9, which has among its goals the construction of reliable, sustainable and quality infrastructures to support economic development and human well-being.
