Since January 1, 2023, World Athletics has implemented the new Global Calendar system that establishes an innovative roadmap for participation in absolute international championships. The Global Calendar is divided into different levels, and only the results and records achieved in these competitions are valid for:

  • Being included in the statistical rankings (world ranking or top list).
  • To be included in the classification system for international championships, both by minimum participation and by World Ranking.

The Global Calendar was approved in December 2021 and was carried out as a pilot project between April and September 2022. Starting this year, World Athletics will only recognize and process results achieved in competitions attached to the Global Calendar.

The results of any competition not included in the Global Calendar, even if it is carried out in compliance with the World Athletics technical and competition regulations, will not be recognized by World Athletics.

In this way, only the marks that are made in the competitions included in the Global Calendar will be valid for:

  • Qualification for absolute international championships.
    • Entry standards or minimum participation marks.
    • World Ranking.
  • World Records.
  • World ranking of brands (top list).

In order for their inclusion in the Global Calendar to be effective, international competitions and authorized national competitions must be included 60 days before the competition is held.

Additionally, European Athletics has implemented the Global Calendar system for its absolute international competitions and rankings.

Considering the World Athletics regulations, the RFEA Governing Board approved at its meeting on January 14 the competitions that will be included in the Global Calendar 2023:

  • Competitions included in the World Athletics calendar (outdoor and indoor track, route and march) and European Athletics (indoor and outdoor track).
  • Absolute Championships of Spain, Sub23, Sub20 and Sub18 (indoor and outdoor track).
  • Absolute Championship of Spain of Autonomous Federations (outdoors).
  • Final Matchday of the Spanish Championships for Absolute Clubs in Division of Honor and 1st Division in the open air (Iberdrola League and the Joma League).
  • Spanish Indoor Club Championships (Iberdrola Cup and Joma Cup)
  • Spanish Cross Country Championships by Clubs and by Autonomous Federations
  • Spanish Walking and Walking Championships and international Walking and Walking competitions with an international measurement certificate and three international walking judges for the walking tests.
  • International indoor and outdoor track competitions included in the official RFEA Levels I and II calendar.
  • National indoor and outdoor track competitions included in the official RFEA Level I calendar.
  • Individual Absolute Autonomous Championships on indoor and outdoor tracks included in Level I and authorized by the RFEA, upon request of the Autonomous Federation.

As long as they are carried out under regulatory conditions, the marks made in competitions not included in the Global Calendar will be recognized as valid as minimum participation marks for the Spanish Championships, national ranking and Spanish records or better Spanish marks.
