Triumphs for Soriano badminton in Medina del Campo

The full weekend of badminton clubs from Soria had two competitions set in Medina del Campo (Valladolid), a territorial test for lower categories that was held on Saturday, while Sunday was the turn for absolutes and seniors. The two tests were valid for the national ranking and had the presence of players from the region as well as those bordering Castilla y León.

Saturday’s day was very productive for the players in the sub13 category, obtaining three of the five possible golds as well as other silver and bronze medals.

Jimena Ayllón, from Club Badminton Soria (CBS-CS24), begins to be the dominator within Castilla y León and a national benchmark, achieving two wins in both individual and women’s doubles, results that keep her in the national top ten of both modalities.

The final of the male double modality, also within the sub13 category, had full players from Soria in the final of the category. In what is becoming a regional classic, the couple formed by Aarón Barrera and Iker González beat Alvaro Gómez and Daniel Marín by 21-11, 18-21 and 21-14.

In addition to these three victories, Daniel Marín and Íker González would take the podium to collect the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Sunday’s day was also propitious for the interests of Soria, obtaining a victory, two runners-up as well as two other bronze medals.

The victory came in the senior category by David Hernansanz’s racket in the individual category. Having great confidence in his game, he was able to get rid of Sergio Martínez from Salamanca whom, until this past Sunday, he had not been able to beat. He reaffirmed the good feelings obtaining the silver together with Sergio Latorre from Burgos in the men’s doubles draw.

Regarding the absolute category, Javier Barrios stood out, who has ceased to be a promise to become a reality. Belonging to the sub19 section, the young volantista will alternate the national competitions of said category with other absolute competitions, like the one last Sunday, in order to achieve greater experience and level against his opponents. This weekend it was measured with absolute players reaching the semifinals in the individual modality, only surpassed by the nineteenth in the national ranking and forcing a third set as well as the silver medal, together with Elena Dueñas from Burgos, in the modality of mixed double. Within this same table, Esther Pereira from AD89, together with Raul Gutierrez from Club Badminton Burgos, took third place.

Finally, the weekend was completed with the participation of two CBS-CS24 players in the senior National Master of Tenerife. The performance of Santiago Martínez, who returned from the Canary Islands with three silver medals, stood out, achieving medals in all possible modalities confirming his excellent moment of form, in the same way, José Carlos Perez would obtain two medals in both individual and men’s doubles, in this bronze case.

Martínez agreed to the three finals, playing up to ten games to gain access to them. With such a load of matches, in a competition played in a single day, he was unable to develop his best game in this round due to accumulated fatigue. Even so, in a mixed double he forced, together with the player from Extremadura of the Leganés Badminton Club Beatriz Martín, a third set in a demonstration of the continuous sporting growth of the couple. In the men’s doubles, pairing this time with Francisco Javier Baquedano from Estellés, they also played the final in a match that was resolved by two games to one, while the singles final, starred by both, the victory fell on the side of the Navarrese in two sets.

For his part, José Carlos Pérez, proved to be in the elite of his category to the point of having the current Spanish champion of his category against the ropes, losing in a third set that lasted until 22-20, defining the match by small nuances in the end of said manga.

In doubles, together with Fernando Herrero from Madrid, he fell in the semifinals of the men’s doubles draw.

After the medals were awarded, the organization recognized Santiago Martinez for his effort and demonstration of sporting values together with the player, with roots from Soria, Vanessa Serrano.
