The eighth article of this decree specifies that “the implementation of alternatives for the gradual substitution in the country of genetically modified corn for animal feed and industrial use for human food must be carried out based on criteria of sufficiency in the supply and in congruence with the food self-sufficiency policies“.

The decree provides for actions for the gradual substitution of grain whose industrialization generates products intended for human consumption, from December 31, 2020 to January 31, 2024.

“At the end of said period and the sufficiency in the supply of corn without glyphosate is reached, this use should not generate products intended for human consumption,” the decree details.

The prohibition is not total, since this corn may be used in the manufacture of other products such as cosmetics, textiles, footwear, paper, constructionamong others.
