The Port of Sagunto channels nine million tons in 2022

The Sagunto Port Authority (spain) has closed the 2022 financial year with a good performance in freight traffic, channeling a total of 9,362,069 tons, representing an increase of 24.38% compared to last year.

Of all types of traffic, the movement of liquid bulk, such as natural gas, has been the main reason for this improvement. And it is that, the Saguntino enclave has a regasification plant that has positioned the port in a strategic entry point for this source of energy, guaranteeing the arrival of its supply after the closure of the gas pipeline from Algeria and the consequences derived from the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

So, this raw material made up a total of 4,118,516 tons, double the figures registered in the previous year. Most of the movements are imports from the United States, approximately half of them, and Nigeria, with 18%.

Regarding the rest of the traffic, it is worth mentioning that the Port Authority managed 4,397,862 tons of liquid bulk, which translates into a growth of 82.6% over the previous year, also marked by the transit of biofuels that, with 12,587 tons, multiplied by three their records.

Regarding solid bulk, 750,293 tons of merchandise were moved, which indicates an increase of 5.67%. Likewise, fertilizer traffic has been managed, with 409,445 tons and an increase of 1.61%, other non-metallic minerals, with 146,960 tons and a growth of 60%; and cereals and their flours with 142,987 and 28.56% more, were the main protagonists in this aspect.

For its part, the Port Authority of La Coruña has closed its third best year of port traffic, registering the movement of almost 15 million tons. This is a growth of more than 25%, which is due to the recovery of the sectors after the pandemic.
