The man from Sabadell was re-elected as president of the Catalan Football Federation and will begin a new stage at the head of the organization
Calming the waters around the organization and continuing with projects such as the new Competition Plan are some of its goals
“I will leave my skin to unite all Catalan football” Joan Soteras told SPORT days before being re-elected as president of the Catalan Football Federation (FCF). In the round of interviews with the candidates that this newspaper carried out -with the exception of Juanjo Isern who declined the invitation-, Soteras already made it clear that he would continue with his project, with the main intention of calm the waters and reduce tension in an increasingly tense environment that benefited no one and only damaged the image of the organization. The vote this past Monday gave him the necessary support to start a new term and, among other goals, meet that objective.
As in May 2022, the Sabadell native once again had the majority support of the assembly members for his ‘Guanya el Futbol’ candidacy. He received 503 votes and far exceeded Juanjo Isern’s 335 (Tots Units Fem Força) and Pep Palacios (El Canvi de Debò). He received the support of 57.62% of the voters and in the last few hours the congratulations of several clubs followed one another.

“We have shown that it is possible to win and not based on challenges and on the basis of problems, of taking a tantrum and not knowing how to lose,” Soteras said after the elections in a clear allusion to Isern, who in the last few hours has charged against Soteras and announced that he will challenge the elections again. “We have been clean, they have been super legal elections”argued the Sabadellense.
The electoral repetition ruled by the Tribunal Català de l’Esport (TCE) prevented there being a new electoral campaign as such, so all the applicants went with the same proposals with which months ago they tried to seduce the clubs. In that sense, the crown jewel of Soteras was the change in the Competition Plan, already approved in the last Assembly, and that after the last elections it is endorsed that it is a project that is liked. The creation of the Superlliga, an elite category between the First Catalan and the Third RFEF, is the main novelty of the change and that will come into force from next season.
Inauguration
For now, everything will start with the official appointment of the new top president. The inauguration of Joan Soteras will take place next Monday at noon at the headquarters of the Catalan Football Federation in Barcelona. It will be from then on when the leader will be able to act as such and once again act as the visible face of the Federation.
Until the aforementioned moment arrives, it will continue to be Joaquim del Pino the visible face of the FCF as a member of the Management Board. He will be the one who, for example, will present today the title of Catalan Cup champion to Badalona Futur or Andorra in the match that will be played tonight. Joan Soteras will be present at the Municipal de Badalona, although he will do so in a personal capacity.
